A Summary of Events Up Until Now

On June 15th, 1984, we were in California visiting family. We went to Disneyland and I saw Snow White.  She scared me because she had so much white make up on her face and I cried. 

On November 3rd. 1984, my Mom recovered my favourite toy, “Clownie,”  with new fabric because he was tearing.  I pretended he was going to have an operation. 

On July 14th, 1985 I skinned my knee in the driveway and ran all the way to the park where my Mom was attending a wedding. 

On June 23rd, 1986, I was playing in a soccer game.  My Dad was the coach of our team and it began to thunder.  I was scared of lightning because the previous summer my Nana had read me a “Drama in Real Life” article from Reader’s Digest in which a boy was unexpectedly struck by lightning while playing in a soccer game.  Later, when we were driving home I asked for a Slurpee and my Dad said, no, because I had not played my best.  I said it was because I was scared.  He said that was silly because the lightning was far away. 

On August 12th, 1987, the Minnesota Twins had just won the World Series. On a family trip to Minneapolis I asked for a Minnesota Twins t-shirt.  Instead, I got a Los Angeles Raiders t-shirt.  It was the first time I realized that black t-shirts smell different than other colours. 

On October 26th, 1987, I campaigned to name my sister Annie, when she was born, because I liked the movie Annie. 

On April 24th, 1988, my Mom made me wear a grey trench coat to school, even though I said I didn’t like it - so I cried.

On October 12th, 1988, I asked my Dad to join the soccer game my friends and I were having in the front yard.  He played goal for my team.  One of my friends scored a goal on him and I felt bad because I thought my Dad would be better at soccer because he was an adult.


On September 8th, 1989, it was my birthday.  My grandparents decorated their car with bows and ribbons and I saw them arrive at my house because I was riding my bike up and down the sidewalk.


On September 22nd, 1990, my friend Dan and I made airplanes out of “Connects” and threw them off the balcony.  My Mom yelled at me after Dan went home.


On December 23rd, 1991, my sister and I were excited because my Mom made us matching Christmas pajamas.


On August 2nd, 1992, my sister discovered that her wrist watch appeared to disappear when she put her arm underwater.  I told her the water just made it look that way.


On July 30th, 1993, a large crayfish pinched my sisters finger when she was trying to pick it up.


On February 8th, 1994, My sister took to roller skating in the house.


On April 20th, 1995, I made my Mom a birthday cake that looked like the earth. 


On November 22nd, 1996, I discovered that the ‘young man’ who was shoveling my grandparents driveway was my friend Dan, when I arrived at their house and found him watching curling and eating donuts with my Papa.


On December 7th, 1997, I watched an episode of Law & Order from which I gathered that city police resent the FBI.


On October 12th, 1998, My dog, Blackie, died after climbing the stairs into the house one last time.


On April 18th, 1998, I was working on a Biology project about DNA when my Mom came into the room and told me my Dad died after suffering a heart attack.


On December 20, 1998, The hospital called to say that my Nana had passed away.


On July 6th, 1999, My friend Mark said, upon seeing the people he worked with, “fuck those are the people I work with.” The people he worked with definitely overheard.


On September 9th, 2000, I was convinced that I was going to die.


On June 5th, 2001, five days after a tape got stuck in the VCR it ejected itself.


On October 20th, 2002, my Mom fainted while we were going through my grandparents things after they had passed away.  She did not want to go to the hospital.


On December 11th, 2003, I was out at a bar with my friend Danny.  He brought me a coke with two cherries in it and a yellow straw as Imagine by John Lennon began to play.


On July 2nd, 2004, my friend Dan came into the room wearing a C3PO mask.  Our friend Jason pulled it off his face to reveal there was another C3PO mask underneath.


On September 20th, 2004, I drank an entire bottle of red wine in a friend’s basement and watched movies he had made between the ages of 10 and 12.  They were as follows: An over dubbing of WW2 footage.  A mystery about radioactivity that stared his six & seven year old brothers.  Various claymation skits.  Various animations done with Lego.  A spoof of Baywatch in which he was wearing a woman’s bathing suit and an old wig.


On October, 11th, 2006, I had trouble finding a picture of an emu on the Internet that showed it in relation to a person so I could get a sense of scale.


On November 21st, 2006, Susan Gold Smith told me she felt like a trouble maker.

On January 1st,  2007, I finally wrote the letter that began, “It has been a very long winter.”


On March 4th, 2008, In a telephone conversation my sister mentioned that the safety of soy products, particularly fermented soy products, were being called into question.  Later she said, “rice milk is the most difficult to froth.”


On May 28th, 2008, I made my first pavlova.
